The U15 Intra-Village Volleyball Tournament 2025 is currently underway in Ungma Village, drawing young athletes and enthusiasts from across the village. Organized by The Evergreen Club Ungma, the tournament kicked off on April 14, officially launching the two-year countdown to the club’s Golden Jubilee celebration in 2026.
A total of eight teams are competing in a league format, with top performers set to advance to the playoffs. In the tournament’s opening match, Longtrok Senden clinched a victory over United Soyim Club.
The opening ceremony, held at Soyim Aonglenden, witnessed participation from village leaders, sports officials, and young athletes. In his welcome address, Imkong Tzuwar, President of Evergreen Club, described the tournament as the “first step” toward commemorating the 50th anniversary of the “Evergreen Club Nagaland Open Volleyball Tournament in 2026. He emphasized the club’s longstanding commitment to promoting grassroots sports and nurturing young talent through structured and competitive platforms.
Special guest Toshiwapang Imsong, President of the Sports Society Soyim, applauded the initiative and encouraged participants to “play with dedication and sincerity to pave the way for future success.”
Also addressing the gathering, Imtisungkum Longkumer Tatar of the Ungma Village Council reflected on the club’s humble origins and enduring impact. “Many great players emerged from this tournament,” he said, urging the new generation to “aim higher than those who came before them.”
Representatives from the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA) praised the Evergreen Club’s “visionary initiative,” calling it the “strongest among affiliated clubs.”
They also hailed the league-based format—introduced for the first time in Mokokchung and possibly in Nagaland—as a landmark move in the region’s youth sports development.
The competition provided free entry for all participating teams, and the tournament promises cash prizes for champions, runners-up, and individual award winners.
