DIMAPUR, MAY 4 (MExN): Unity Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur held the inaugural function of their new school building on May 4 at the school campus in Diphupar. The event also acted as the opening of science stream education in the higher secondary level of the school. The Chief Guest for the event was Dr Nicky Kire, Parliamentary Secretary for Law, Justice & Land Revenue, Labor & Employment.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Apele Daili while the dedication prayer was pronounced by Rev Pfokrelo, Pastor of 7th Mile MBC, Dimapur. The plaque was then unveiled by the Chief Guest, Nicky Kire followed by the release of a number of balloons.
Dr Kire in his address exhorted the students to be “dedicated, determined and disciplined.” He lamented that Naga youths at present, “Do not know where they want to go.” He expounded on the responsibility of the teachers and the career councilors to set the students off on the right path. He also maintained that parents should not pressure their students but rather let them follow their own dreams and aims.
While warning the students of the various social pressures, Dr Kire urged them to be focused and determined. He further expounded on the saturation o government jobs in the state. He stated that students would have to work harder in order to gain employment.
The welcome address was delivered by A Daili, Managing Director of UCHSS. In his address, Daili recalled the difficulties that the school had to undergo during the construction process of the new building. He lauded the hard work and dedication of everyone involved with the school throughout the years. He added that this event was a culmination of a collaborative effort from everyone involved. He expressed of his desire for the school to aim bigger and added, “the story of our institution has just begun.”
Several students presented choreography and musical pieces drawing huge applause from the gathering. Short speeches were delivered by Vitoshe Kinimi, Chairman of the Diphupar Village Council and Rev Koda, Executive Secretary of the Mao Baptist Church Association. Kinimi expressed hope for the institution to flourish, while Koda conveyed his congratulations on the school’s successful step towards a bigger vision.
A song was also presented by Vili Swu, Lecturer. Two songs were also presented by the UCHSS Choir. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ashuli Joseph, Principal of UCHSS while Lipok Jamir, Pastor of the Ao Baptist Church Diphupar pronounced the closing prayer. A feast was also organized for the attendees of the event. Rev K Losii, Pastor of the Moa Baptist Church, Kohima conducted the prayer for the feast.
