MLA Dr Chotisuh Sazo said that the present UDA government headed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has been trying its best to facilitate a solution to the Naga political issue.

In the 11th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, he reminded that all the 60 legislators, led by Rio, met the Prime Minister, Home Minister and other Union Ministers, apprising the leaders about the need to bring about an early solution. He made the comment while inaugurating a new Water Supply project at Khulazu Bawe village in Phek district on December 31.

When he was the Speaker of the 12th NLA, he added that the PWC met the Prime Minister, Home Minister and other Union Ministers and the leaders of the various national political parties on two occasions. The 13th NLA saw the formation of the Parliamentary Committee on Naga Political Issue, comprising all the 60 legislators and the 2 Members of Parliament, the Core Committee of which have had several meetings with the different Naga political Groups and Government of India representatives.

“However, since we are only a facilitator, the final settlement or solution depends on the GoI and the negotiating parties,” Dr Sazo said.

He said that if a solution does not come about, elections to the 14th NLA will be held as scheduled in the last part of February or first week of March 2023. Pending the anticipated solution, he said, “It is important to choose the right leader and the right party which will form the government and speak and work for the people.”

According to him, Neiphiu Rio will again form the government after the polls and urged the villagers to vote conscientiously and not to “sell your vote, which is your right.”

Meanwhile, Dr Sazo thanked the PHED and WATSAN for completing the new water supply project, which was constructed under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He also lauded EE (PHED), Phek and his team for the timely completion of the project.

Er Vikusa Khape, EE (PHED) Phek also spoke and told the villagers to make the best use of the new facility. Meshusayi Tetseo, District Programme Officer (Social Welfare), Mokokchung also addressed the gathering.
