Ukhrul, May 19 (MExN): The Ukhrul District Working Journalists Association (UDWJA) has resolved to refrain from giving coverage to the ongoing Shirui Festival. A decision to this effect was taken during an emergency meeting of the association at its office on May 18 on the grounds “of the total sidelining of the association” by the organizing committee despite being apprised of the need for coordinating with the local media personnel, a press release from the UDWJA stated. Accusing the organizing committee of ignoring the association, the UDWJA stated that it takes “strong exception” to the manner in which the committee proceeded to conduct the festival without officially informing the members of the association about the scheduled events at different venues, “let alone extending an invitation”. “Being left in the dark about all the upcoming events of festival, members of the association have been placed in a tight spot while covering the festival. In light of the prevailing circumstances with respect to the association members, UDWJA has resorted to boycott of covering of the ongoing state festival,” the release stated.
