Weather based Integrated Agro Advisory for the month of April 2026

Plant Breeding & Genetics –Harendra Verma
•    Farmers are advised to complete the sowing of maize, sesame, beans and cucurbits before April 10.
•    Use fruit fly trap for management and to avoid the damage by fruit fly attack.
•    Farmer’s are advocated to arrange bio-fertilizers and organic fertilizers in advance and apply as a basal dose.
•    Recommended variety of crops –Green Gram – Pratap; Jhum paddy – Bhalum-5;

Maize – RCM 76; Sesame – Amrit, Prachi and Cums-17.
•    Use sticky trap for management of white fly attack in king chilli (Naga Mircha).
•    Apply biofertilizers Rhizobium, Azospirillum or Azotobacter @ 4 kg/ha, PSB @ 4 kg/ha, VAM @ 4 kg/ha.
•    Apply FYM/poultry manure @ 5 tonne/ha before ploughing uniformly.
•    Apply 1/3rd of N + full dose of P + K as basal application.

Fruit Science –Ruth Assumi
•    Provide wind protection (staking/support) for young plants.
•    Ensure proper drainage in banana and papaya fields.
•    Spraying micronutrients (Zinc, Boron) to fruit trees will be beneficial for the tree health, and avoid spraying during rain/thunderstorm periods.
•    Use anti-drop fruit sprays i.e., NAA (naphthalene acetic acid) in low dose particularly in citrus and mango.

Pathology – Lireni Kikon
•    During rainy days, make proper drainage to avoid water stagnation.
•    Prepare nursery beds for kharif crops on raised beds.
•    Use disease resistant varieties.
•    Before sowing, treat the seeds with biopesticides like Trichoderma harziannum to protect against soil borne diseases.

Entomology- Moanaro Lemtur
•    Set up light traps to trap the swarming termites as reproductive termites take flight to establish new colonies.
•    Install yellow sticky traps in the vegetable nursery as well as in the field to monitor the pest population levels and to initiate timely management measures.
•    Apply neem cake in the furrows @ 250 kg/ha at the time of planting vegetable seedlings and repeat the application 25 days after planting to prevent leaf miner and sucking pests.
•    Before transplanting seedlings of Tomato, Chilli, Brinjal, etc. to the field, dip the roots for 5 minutes in Imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 0.3 ml/L of water solution as preventive measures for sucking pests.
•    In Mango plants spray Thiomethoxam 25% WG @ 0.5g/L or Spiromesifen  240 SC or Imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 0.5 ml/L of water if flower thrips, hoppers and shoot gall psylla are observed.
•    For management of litchi fruit borer spray neem oil @ 3ml/L or Spinosad 45 SC @ 0.75ml/L or Indoxacarb 14.5 SC @ 0.5 ml/L of water during evening hours in early April

Poultry – Pedenuo  Shuya
•    Pre monsoon triggers fungal growth and coccidiosis, so keep the litter materials dry by regular raking and by adding dry lime. Also store feed properly to prevent moisture build up.
•    Ensure that the roofs and drainage way are proper.
•    Fluctuating temperatures cause stress to the birds, so supplement with electrolytes or multivitamins.

Piggery – Atokali Sumi
•    With the onset of monsoon, ensure that the sty are kept clean & dry to prevent parasitic infestation.
•    Check for any skin infections on the animals.
•    Make sure to provide fresh clean drinking water to the animals.
•    Practice routine deworming and vaccination.
•    Maintain overall biosecurity of the farm.

Fishery – Jyotish Barman
•    Renovation works like pond excavation, strengthening of embankment and side slopes, etc. should be completed
•    For dry pond bottom, apply powdered agricultural lime@ 130 kg/ha. In case of water-filled pond, should be first dissolved in water in a container and then spray over the water surface.
•    For water-filled pond, manuring and fertilization should be done after 10 days of lime application.  Apply cowdung@1 ton/ha after 10 days of lime application. The cow dung should be placed at one corner of the pond so that it dissolves slowly. After 7-10 days, apply urea @ 25 kg/ha and SSP @ 20 kg/ha. Urea and SSP can be mixed together with pond mud and the mixture should be placed at different spots of the pond bottom.
•    In case the above management practice is already completed, then Stocking of fingerlings should not be delayed. Quality and disease-free fish seed should be procured from certified hatchery or from known source.
•    The pond should be stocked with the six species composition of Rohu (Labeorohita), Catla(Catla catla), Mrigal (Cirrhinus mrigala), Grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella), Silver carp (Hypopthalmichthys molitrix) and Common carp (Cyprinus carpio).
•    The species composition includes Rohu – 20 %, Catla – 25 %, Mrigal – 20 %, Silver carp – 15 %, Grass carp – 10 % and Common carp – 10%.
•    The pond should be stocked with 10000 fingerlings per hectare.
•    The fingerling should be stocked preferably in the morning hours or when the temperature is cool. Stocking should not be done at mid-day or when the temperature is high. Optimum temperature for better fish growth is 28-32 °C
•    Before releasing the fish seed into the pond, it should be acclimatized to the pond condition. Acclimatization is necessary to ensure lesser mortality. Acclimatization can be done by keeping the oxygen packed bag floating on the water for about 30 minutes and then slowly releasing the fish. Alternatively, if fish seed are brought in open vessel, then pond water should be mixed slowly in the container and release the seed.
•    Since natural food is not enough to meet the feed requirement of the growing fish, the fish should be fed with supplementary diet which can be either prepared at home or procured from market (commercial feed). Supplementary feed can be prepared by mixing Rice polish/Rice bran and mustard oil cake (1: 1 ratio) and provide the diet in dough form @ 4 kg /day/ha.
