Two Naga students reportedly stranded in Ukraine

Two students from Nagaland pursuing MBBS from Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University and Odessa National Medical University in Ukraine have been reported to be stranded in the war-torn country.

According to Ukraine's Ministry of Education and Science, there are around 18,095 Indian students in the country. This also accounts for the largest international student group, majority of whom are pursuing a degree in medicine. About another 2,000 Indian nationals are reported to be working in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Nagaland Home Commissioner, Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha informed a helpline number has been activated to assist anyone from the State who might be stranded in Ukraine. 

The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), NSDMA, Home Department is 0370-2291122/2291120.

The details of any person from Nagaland who may be stranded in Ukraine and needs to be evacuated owing to the prevailing situation there, may be provided by his/her families/relatives, for necessary support and facilitation to the SEOC, informed the State DIPR. 

The details can also be provided via emails at seoc.nsdma@gmail.com and sdma.nagaland@gmail.com 

Willing to assist any state’s citizen: Dy CM 
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland and minister in-charge for Home, Y Patton also informed that he is willing to assist anyone from Nagaland studying, traveling or working in Ukraine and is left stranded or fled the country and taking shelter in neighbouring countries.

The Deputy Chief Minister is willing to extend any possible help to bring back "our brothers and sisters” by getting in touch with the officials of Ministry of External Affairs and Embassies in foreign countries, stated a press release Patton’s office. 

For this matter, he has asked the parents and relatives of those who may be stranded there, and needing assistance, to send him proper details of such persons through parents or through the office of the Naga Students ' Federation, it added.
