UNC opposes Indo-Myanmar border fencing

Senapati, January 14 (NNN): The United Naga Council (UNC) has strongly opposed the construction of border fence along the Indo-Myanmar border at Pangsha village in Tuensang, Nagaland.   Terming it as “great injustice” committed on the Naga people, the UNC stated that such border fencing is bound to “deprive the inherent rights of the Naga family from communicating with each other.”   The UNC further maintained that the “divisive policy” to create a rift in the Naga family should be “thwarted” by every Naga.   A statement released by the UNC today called for all Naga organisations to join hands against the “sinister design to separate us physically, emotionally and culturally,” terming it an act “against humanity.” The Naga peoples can “no longer tolerate external forces continuing to separate the Naga family in all respects,” it maintained.   “For how long and for how far the Naga family will be exposed to such sinister designs to annihilate us?” it asked. Further, the UNC asserted that “Our land is contiguous and it shares traditional boundaries with other nation(s), community(s) or village(s). We the Naga people even today protest against the bifurcation of our ancestral homeland by the colonialists by placing us in different countries, and also, in different states in India without prior knowledge and consent of the people. The Naga people will not tolerate further division of our land and people under any circumstances by any kinds of artificial barriers.”
