UNC urges SAPO to revoke ban, appeals for dialogue

Senapati, December 21 (MExN): The United Naga Council (UNC) has urged the Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) to reconsider their stance and revoke the ban on entry of Mao people within the SAPO jurisdiction to pave way to bring about peace through dialogue.

Stating this in a press communiqué on Wednesday, the UNC state that recurrence of the long drawn land dispute between the SAPO and the Mao Council at regular intervals without a permanent solution has devastated the cordial relationship between the two organisations.

It said that land dispute is a common phenomenon everywhere because every Naga village shares a traditional village boundary with more than one village and although there are several cases of boundary disputes in Naga areas, most of the cases are settled in tune with the customary practices without the intervention of other forces.

However, while taking the exacerbation of the present situation into consideration and sensing the impending danger arising out of the protracted conflict, the UNC appealed to both the organisations to refrain from resorting to violence in order to usher in peace and tranquillity between the consanguine.

It further urged the SAPO to kindly reconsider their stance and to pave way for bringing about peace through dialogue between the two organisations.
