UNC welcomes formation of Core Committee on Indo-Naga Political issue

Senapati, June 21 (MExN): The United Naga Council (UNC)  has appreciated and welcomed the formation of Core Committee on the Indo-Naga Political issue by the Nagaland government under the initiative of the chief minister Neiphiu Rio to “resolve and to strengthen the ongoing negotiations between the government of India (GOI) and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN).”

In a statement, the Council also expressed hope and prayers that the Core Committee would be able to “intervene and forge the long and frequent stalemate that is being taken place in the negotiation between the two parties.”

It is our sincere believe that the honourable members and representatives of the different political parties presenting in the Core Committee will put their best efforts in the interest of the entire Nagalim, with the spirit and soul of the Uniqueness of the Naga History and Situations and in tune with the agreed Historic Framework Agreementsigned on 3rd August 2015 at new Delhi to co-exist peacefully as two separate entities, it said.

“We are fully convinced and confident that the Core Committee members will look beyond their personal interest and groups and politically respond to the call of the Nagas,” added the statement appended by UNC President S Kho John and General Secretary S Milan.

The Council also put forward a proposal that that an elected member each from Assam, Arunachal and Manipur  be included in the Core Committee, for better co-ordination, but “only if the criteria of the select committee permits.”

The scheduled meeting on June 19, which was postponed, if be rescheduled at the earliest convenience, would back up the ongoing talk process, it added.
