‘Under the Weather’: DNSU urges extension of summer holidays in Dimapur citing ‘extreme heatwave’

Dimapur, July 28 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) today urged the State Government and all the educational institutions in and around Dimapur to extend the summer holidays due to the “extreme heatwave and high humidity.”

The union stated in an appeal to extend the vacation until the temperature normalises.

According to the DNSU, rising temperatures, coupled with high humidity, can be disastrous for both old and young, especially school students.

In such sizzling temperatures, classrooms become unbearable even with power supply, it said.

Such an environment is not conducive to learning and instead would have adverse effects on the health of both teachers and pupils alike, it added.

Terming the current weather situation as ‘unprecedented,’ the DNSU views it as imperative for educational institutions to close down for a few days in the interest of the student community.

In addition, the union requested the cancellation of parade participation on Independence Day by school students if the temperature does not subside.

In view of the rising temperature, the DNSU also stressed the importance of planting more trees, deeming it the most “effective method to improve air quality, climate amelioration, and global warming.”

The DNSU also urged everyone to stay hydrated by drinking adequate liquids and avoiding going outdoors. The district of Dimapur and the surrounding vicinity have been experiencing a rise in heat for the past few days.
