Unemployment, entrepreneurs issues not in Government's vision, says Therie

Dimapur, August 16 (MExN):  Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President K Therie has said that “unemployment and entrepreneurs are not in the vision of the state Government”.

In a statement on August 16, the NPCC president said that government speech on Independence and Republic Days are summaries of its achievements and policy document.

“Sadly, unemployment and entrepreneurs are not in the vision of the state Government,” he said, while adding that the issues were not reflected in the government’s Independence Day message.

“The speech not only failed to show any change but also did not could give any hope,” he said.

Instead, Independence Day message is marked by COVID-19 pandemic efforts, he said, expressing skepticism on “whether TrueNat machine reports should be considered as COVID-19 positive.” The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention of the US government has recommended Bio-Safety Level-3 laboratories to test COVID-19, he contended.

On the state government’s response to economic challenges brought about by the pandemic, Therie said the Strategic Committee headed by the Chief Minister and the creation of a Department of Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland with no policies to fund entrepreneurs was “something like supplying pen-drives to students with no access to computers to read the contents.” With no funding policies, there is no point of talking of dreams and plans, he said.

He also pointed out that while the Prime Minister has induced Rs 20 lakh crore in order to boost the economy, “Nagaland State has no clue as to what to do.”

Therie meanwhile noted that the jobs created under Rural Development Department are good, "However, if job cards were distributed honestly, more than 4.5 lakh people should be employed. And if 100 days’ wages are honestly paid, for farmers, it is good money for working on their own farms,” he said.

In this pandemic, the Government should stop obtaining blank cheques and convergence of funds to other activities from wages’ money, he added.
