Unemployment in Nagaland is a ‘fallacy,’ according to James Swu, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Medziphema.
He contextualised his contention, observing that locals consider Nagaland as a ‘land of unemployment,’ while for those coming from outside, the State is a ‘land of opportunities.’ He emphasised that it is primarily about mindset, noting that Nagas tend to consider employment in the government sector as the only real job.
Anything that earns a livelihood is employment, he elaborated, addressing the inaugural day of the three-day Campus Film Festival organized by the Department of Mass Communication at Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) on November 8.
Unemployment is only for those not working hard enough, and employment opportunities are always available for capable people, he added.
Meanwhile, the ADC noted that the world is in the fifth industrial revolution, and there is concern over the advent of artificial intelligence. However, he argued that there is always concern whenever an industrial revolution occurs. Therefore, stating that AI needs someone to prompt, he encouraged the students to explore the many opportunities it offers.
Along with the changes in technology, one needs to reskill and catch up to make use of the opportunities, he added.
