Unethical & Unacceptable: PBCA on decriminalization of Sec 377

In a tribal socio-cultural context, where even a man and a woman marrying from the same clan is ostracised from the village-community, the act of homosexuality is unconceivable

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 22 (MExN): The Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA) has condemned the recent Supreme Court judgment scrapping Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code and decriminalizing homosexuality. In this connection, Executive Secretary PBCA, N. Tialemba Phom in a press statement has “warned” all Phom youngsters and believers not to be persuaded by such laws, which it alleged, is “misleading, misguiding and misinterpreting the biblical morality and ethics.”   Simultaneously, the PBCA also maintained that in a tribal socio-cultural context, even a man and a woman marrying from the same clan is ostracised from the village-community. In such a context, the act of homosexuality is “unconceivable, totally unacceptable, unethical and shocking to the Phom tribal community,” it further stated.   Also pointing out that Christians are guided and governed by biblical principles and values, the PBCA affirmed that marriage is only between a man and a woman, and apart from that, there are no other marriages recommended by the Bible. The PBCA therefore made it clear that it solely stand on the finality of the Holy Bible for all matters of faith and practices for Phom society in particular and the Naga society in general.
