Unity is the need of the hour for Nagas: NNC/FGN

Dimapur, February 9 (MExN): The Federal Government of Nagaland, Naga National Council (NNC/FGN) has stated that the  Naga dream has to be pursued with more vigor and that only unity can lead to the building of a strong nation.

In a press release on Wednesday, Secretary General Ghuvishe V Zhimomi informed that the NNC/FGN had adopted a three-point resolution during a ‘high level’ NNC/FGN meeting under the leadership of FGN Kedahge Brig (Retd) S Singnya and NNC President Senka Ao in Dimapur on February 8.

“The NNC/FGN firmly believes that unity is strength and is the need of the hour for the Nagas,” the release stated, adding that divisions and divisive forces have no place in the pursuit of the Naga aspirations as they only serve to weaken and fragment the clarion call of the nation.

“The Naga dream has to be pursued united with more vigorously and only unity can lead to the building of a strong nation… The NNC/FGN unanimously resolved to stand united against all odds and pursue the Naga Cause with one voice,” it added.

Further, the NNC/FGN, as a part and parcel of the NNPGs, stated that it has been supporting and continues to support the Indo-Naga Political dialogue between the Government of India (GoI) and the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs). However, it expressed concern that even after a lapse of more than two years of satisfactorily concluding the talks, “The final agreement has still not been inked by the two entities.” In this connection, it expressed hope that the political talks were not merely political gimmicks to gain political mileage by the Government in power at Delhi and reminded the GoI that “too much procrastination may not serve any purpose; rather it may be detrimental for all concerned.”

Meanwhile, the group made an appeal to the Naga people to provide shelter and humanitarian aid to displaced Myanmar Nagas who have been forced to flee from the trouble torn Myanmar to other Naga inhabited areas. Stating that hapless men, women and children have had to flee from their homes in order to save themselves from the intolerable persecutions and human rights violations of the Myanmar army, it said that “it is the bounden duty of all right thinking Nagas to give refuge and help to our Naga brethren who have crossed the Myanmar borders and are now in different parts of the Naga inhabited areas in search of sanctuary ever.”
