University students on HIV/AIDS awareness

Kohima: Following the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) program on Universities Action on Aids, Nagaland University has recently organized a series of activities for college and university students with the prime object to create awareness among the youth on HIV/AIDS. 

According to a press release received here, three contests were held- Debate, Essay and Poster making competitions on September 12 and 20. Students from eleven colleges and university campuses participated in the competitions. 

The three best essays are being sent to the AIU Inter- University National essay Contest, New Delhi. The two students who have bagged the first and second position in the poster contest will be participating at the Inter- University National Poster Exhibition/ Competition to be held from Oct 18- 20 in Mumbai. 

However, the two best speakers of the debate contest were also selected to participate at the East Zone Inter University Debate Contest to be held at Vidyasagar University, Midnapore in west Bengal but had to cancel the trip due to unavoidable circumstances. 

The debate contest was under the theme ‘The youth is more vulnerable to HIV/AIDS in India’ and the best two best speakers were Kopele Mero of Alder College Kohima and Abraham Sangtam of Baptist College Kohima. 

The first position in essay competition was bagged by Bendang Chang, Japfü Christain College, Kigwema and the second and third was bagged by Wedetso of St. Joseph College Jakhama and Osangnok Imchen, Baptist College Kohima respectively. 

The topic was ‘Role of youth in combating HIV/AIDS. The winners of the Poster contest, themed ‘HIV/AIDS’ were Kenlum Mpom of St. Joseph College Jakhama, Temjen Toshi, SASARD, Medziphema.
