‘Unleash your potential’: SBCK Youth Week begins

Competing in various games and sports including traditional and showcasing of rich culture, the Sumi Baptist Church Kohima (SBCK), Youth Department began its Youth Week on Tuesday at Kohima local ground under the theme, “Unleash your potential.”  

Secretary, Land Resources Department, Y. Kikheto Sema IAS who is also the Deacon Board Chairman, SBCK declared the Youth Week open in the midst of more than 600 youngsters representing 10  fellowship sector Sumi Churches.  

Exhorting the gathering, Kikheto emphasized on the urgent need for peace in the society and identified sports as a unifying factor for different conflict situations as testified by history.  

He also recalled how the Forum for Naga Reconciliation used sports as a tool for the various conflicting Naga political groups to come together as a team.  

Kikheto expressed optimism that India and the Naga people were heading towards a brighter future and appealed all sections of people to work towards peace their respective fields.

  “Let the darkest periods be over. We should not go back to our differences and it is time for younger generation to take a strong pledge to work for unity among all sections of the society,” he said.  

Kikheto urged upon the youth to seek strength from God to fight evils and do good for the society. He also encouraged them to learn various forms of tradition and culture during such youth oriented events.  

Speaking on the theme, ‘Unleash your potential,’ Kikheto said God has endowed men with different talents but “instead of using our talents, we blame God. He urged youngsters to identify their talents and use it positively. Kikheto said engaging oneself in physical activity like sports was helpful for body, mind and soul.  

“As a sportsman, you will be faced with so many comments off the field but you just have to play the game without giving in to such distractions,” he added. The Youth Week will culminate of June 25.
