Nagaland’s High Powered Committee (HPC) on COVID-19 on Saturday announced its decision to begin an 18-day unlocking phase, starting from August 1.

Government spokesperson on COVID-19 Neiba Kronu told The Morung Express that would include further relaxations of COVID restrictions that were first imposed in May this year.

During this ‘Unlock 4’ phase, Kronu who is also the Minister for Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, said that the HPC has decided to extend the time for opening of shops to 12 hours, from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. It was earlier permitted till 4:00 pm.

Bus services, both private and government, would be allowed to operate with 50 percent capacity, he said. Nightly restrictions on public movement would be imposed from 8:00 pm to 4:00 am, Kronu added.

Referring to the Kohima Bench of Gauhati High Court (GHC) putting a stay on the Government of Nagaland’s vaccine mandate which required government employees to be fully vaccinated or produce negative COVID-19 test results after every 15-day interval in order to attend offices, Kronu said the government would make its own submissions to the court in the next hearing.

On the Court’s order regarding the vaccination of teaching and non-teaching staff in educational institutions, Kronu said that the government would issue modified standard operating procedure (SOPs) on the same.
