UNPO Assembly calls for peaceful solution to Indo-Naga issue

Calls for repeal of AFSPA, Disturbed Area Act

Dimapur, August 5 (MExN): The meeting in plenary session of  the XV General Assembly of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) on August 2 extended support to the “peaceful solution for the Indo-Naga issue which is just, long lasting, honorable and acceptable to both the sides.”

It called upon the international community to appeal to India to fulfill its commitments in the framework agreement and urged India to repeal acts such as the Armed Forces Special Powers Act and the Disturbed Area Act “which overly militarize the situation facing the Naga people.”

The XV General Assembly of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) held on August 3 adopted a resolution on the implementation of UN Sustainable Development Goal 16.

The UNPO urged the international community to recognize that forward-thinking actions present the best opportunity for the full realization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG Goal 16 in particular, “to promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies and to support more such efforts in the future.”
