Kohima, April 26 (DIPR): Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) in collaboration with Madhubun Educational Books organized seminar on ‘Global education’ for the heads of institutions registered under the Board in two places.
The seminar was held on April 24 at Greenwood School, Dimapur and on April 25 at Capital Convention Centre, Kohima. A total of 402 heads of registered institutions attended it.
The resource person G. Balasubramanian said education is all about re-discovering ourselves. He recounted briefly how the wheel of educational history has turned. “Today, educators need to open up and absorb the new skills, new knowledge, new opportunities and schools should impart knowledge to the students to face the challenges,” he stated. “A school is basically about energy management. Children are more knowledgeable than the teachers in today's context. Therefore, as heads, one need to update themselves, re-learn and be ready to change.”
Balasubramanian dwelt on the seven future challenges of education: Expanding spectrum, Automation unlimited, Sensors and chips, Amazonisation of education, Virtual and augmented reality, Big data and Internet of things, and Multi disciplinary learning and Intent learning (convergence of knowledge).
He asked the principals/headmasters to create a friendly environment for the students to develop their abilities and skills. The head as the leader, the resource person stated, should know the way, go the way, and show the way.
Speaking of types of leaders, namely stand-alone leader, charismatic leader, performing, inspirational and futuristic leader, he said that the principal/headmaster should imbibe all these five leadership qualities in them to fulfill their duties in the school.
He further gave a clarion call to the heads to follow the five mantras of self-learning, skill development, be a part of change, reform and transform and constantly update themselves so that they can perform better in their institutions.
“A school leader must change and improve because new demands and new data require it,” Balasubramanian asserted. “School leaders know that changes are needed. But the big question which they must try to answer is - How can change be initiated and sustained?”
Asano Sekhose, chairperson, NBSE shared important concerns of the Board which she felt was important and necessary for the heads of institutions to know. She urged them to read and follow the guidelines, regulations, and notifications issued by the Board for smooth academic and administrative functioning of the schools.
