UPDS leader arrested for murder

Dimapur, Dec 29 (MExN): After being on the run for nearly 10 months from the hands of the law, Augustin Kramsa alias Longki Rongpi, ‘Central Administrative Officer’ of the banned UPDS was arrested today by the Dimapur Police Mobile Squad for kidnapping and murdering one Robin Brahma. UPDS is a banned insurgent group active in Assam and fringes of Nagaland.    

Robin, a wealthy businessman and an NGO worker from Mentila village, Karbi Anglong, Assam was abducted on March 5, 2006 in the presence of his companions from Burma Camp, Dimapur and murdered the same day at Nahorjan in Assam by Augustin and his three accomplices said police. The abductors also demanded a ransom of Rs.10 lakhs for the release of Robin from his wife, Amphu Brahma before he was murdered. Brother of the victim, Tiken Brahma also filed an FIR on March 6, 2006 alleging that Augustin had kidnapped and murdered his brother police said. 

During interrogation, Augustin Kramsa maintained that Robin Brahma was given “capital punishment” for misusing Rs.42 lakhs belonging to the banned UPDS said the police. One 7.65 US made pistol and 2 live bullets were also recovered from the murder accused. One car,  a Ford Fiasta, bearing registration No NL 07-4042 which the accused was traveling in during the time of arrest was also taken into custody.
