
The general mood surrounding State Academy Hall, Kohima was at its best last Saturday as the finest Hip-Hop artists from around Nagaland gathered to celebrate the yearly event of Urbanjam 2.0. Carrying on with its second sequel under the theme “Hip-Hop Away From Violence” the audience got the chance to witness the best of beatbox, dance & rap all in one stage. Macnivil was the MC for the night along with DJ Moate Pongen on the sets. Asalie Peseyie aka Naga Vibe who is also considered as the one of the pioneers of Hip-Hop in Nagaland graced the occasion. He also pledged to handpick the best performing artist and wholly support them. Indihut artist Echognize & Mc Gruff opened the show followed by the headliners AK Trigga, M-Dox, The HOP Crew, Table 3. There was also a special performance by Otto and Zonimong co-founders of Nagaland Beatbox Community. The acoustic performance of Moko Koza`s hit single “One Day” along with Table 3 was noteworthy with the crowd turning their flashlight on and singing along with the rest of the attendees. Among the participants that managed triumphant, Akhrie Slim took home the title as the rap battle winner, AK Trigga as the best performer and Table 3 the most promising. Akhrie Slim & Table 3 also bagged a record deal each that is sponsored by Ideal Beats (From Malawi), Infinite Records and NV respectively.
Another cool feature of the event this year was the inclusion of red carpet and sales of merchandise by NBC. NCL Streetwear also awarded gift hampers to the best performers and rap battle winner. Freelancers Kaithu Thupita & Nikope were its official cameraman & videographer respectively. Nestvibe, Imprint & Decibel Sound System were its other event partners. All in all, the independent event organised by Naga Homeboiz garnered success by uniting Hip-Hop connects from across the region and has paved way for better platform for its emerging artist from the scene.
