USLB clarifies allegations

Dimapur August, 22 (MExN): In response to President, Yimchungrü Tribal Council (YTC) Thsesong’s statement that appeared in local dailies, the United Sangtam Likhüm Bümji (USLB) issued a clarification for all concerned over late. Sukhalu Sumi’s occupation of land at Pungro.

A rejoinder issued by its Vice President Yangkhaba Sangtam and General Secretary Selitong Sangtam stated that late Sukhalu Sumi was at Sanphure Village for more than 10 days asking for allotment of land to establish a village. After long persuasion within the Naga tradition and customs, the Sanphure village of Sangtam community allotted the land and he had established the village accordingly. However, after few years because of “lust and cult of power” with village taxation issue, misunderstanding developed and late Sukhalu Sumi was killed but not over the land issue.

It added that the grandchildren of late Sukhalu Sumi knows the issue and that “the history will reveal one day”. Therefore, Pongren village established by citizens of Sanphure village, the real land owner village and vacation does not arise at all.
USLB also stated that it would like to clarify to the Naga people over the depriving of facilities and privileges to Yimchungrü in Kiphire district as alleged. “The sitting MLA in Kiphire District is Mr. T. Torechu for the last 08 years Mr. T. Torechu was shadowed by the YTC and functioning as Tribal MLA and Sangtams are the best victims. If need arise the Works Program right from 2003 to 2010 will speak the truth and we are ready to lay the facts and figures. Therefore, the guilty conscious of the YTC should not shift to Sangtams,” the note stated.
