Parliamentary Secretary for Power, C. Kipili Sangtam today graced the occasion of United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP) Silver Jubilee under the theme ‘Truth Triumph’ as chief guest at Phelungre Village. USLB was established in 1988 at Phelungre Village.
Speaking on the occasion, Kipili Sangtam recalled the history of USLB saying, “Working as first general secretary of USLB, we as a team have invested our time, resources and all that we have. Today most of us could not join in this celebration but those of us who are here are excited to see that the organization that we labour for bring much fruit over the years though it has its ups and downs.”
The chief guest also said, “jubilee is the time of reconciliation, re-dedication and also time to share love and happiness with each other” and called upon the gathering to celebrate in pure spirit and added that “the only legacy one leave behind is good work and deeds nothing more or less.” Kipli also stated that ‘no individual is above the tribe’ and cautioned, “No individual should take the organization in his/her will. There was a time when might is right but today it is right that is might and even if it is only an individual if he stand firm for the truth that will be the winner.” In addition, the chief guest encouraged the gathering “to come together, exchange ideas and vision as to how to take the organization forward so that it become stronger and work not only for the Sangtam but also for the Nagas in general.”
He also said that Phelungre village will be blessed as this is the place where the organization was born and it is also the place where the organization is celebrating its silver jubilee and added “God will surely bless the citizens of Phelungre village.”
Imtilemba MLA who also spoke on the occasion after opening of the jubilee magazine called upon the members to recommit and share the vision together so that the organization become stronger to lead the society forward. He also said, “Jubilee is also the time to retrospect, and also to rededicate our commitment to lead the organization 25 years from now and assure his time and everything for the growth of USLB.” The MLA also advised the gathering saying that Sangtam tribe is unique as it is the only tribe bounded by the word ‘Unity.’
K. Asangba Sangtam former MP Lok Sabha who also spoke on the occasion recalled the history and said, “our elders have taken lot of pain to bring us together and at the same time they have also worked tirelessly for the welfare of our wellbeing. Therefore, we should not forget the pain taken by our torchbearers in all the activities we do.” Asangba also said, “We should be an agent of change and that change should come from within and when we change society grows and ultimately it will bear fruit for its citizens. He called upon the gathering to reason together.
Commissioner Secretary DUDA T.C Sangtam also spoke on the occasion. Cultural dance by Singti village men folk, Longmatra town women and Phelungre Village marked the occasion.
