USTM to inaugurate Int'l Centre of Excellence

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 19 (MExN): University of Science & Technology Meghalaya is going to add another feather in its cap by setting up an “International Centre of Excellence” in collaboration with Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC), New Delhi. 

To fulfill the national objectives of bringing in the excellence in implementing the ambitious plans of development of scientific applications, building state of the art physical infrastructure in the nation specially in the North East Region, USTM and CIDC, the apex body established by Government of India, has resolved to enter in a collaborative MOU to establish an International Center of Excellence in USTM Campus.

Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Minister of Education, Assam; Lahkmen Rymbui, Minister of Education, Meghalaya; and Thenuchu, former Home Minister, Nagaland will inaugurate the International Centre of Excellence (ICE) on September 20 in presence of M Hoque, Chancellor, USTM; Dr GD. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, USTM; Dr MP Poonia, Vice Chairman AICTE, Dr PR Swarup, Director General CIDC, and other international experts and industry leaders like Dr Mo Najafi from University of Texas, Arlington, USA.

The ICE shall have 17 schools and fraternity chapters that include: School of vocational studies, School of construction Quality assessment & health assessment of structures, School of Trenchless Technology, School of Arbitration, Conciliation & Dispute resolution, School of Technical consultancy, School of Drone technology & GIS studies, Student Chapters of ECI, IndSTT, ICC, School of Internships for young engineers, School of skill Assessors training, School of non conventional Energy studies, School of Production/ Manufacturing process, School of Artificial intelligence, School of Faculty development, School of Subsurface Investigation, School of Surveying, School of Project Management, School of Surface Transportation.

It is planned that the students and research scientists from India’s North East and other countries like from Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar shall benefit from this initiative.
