The “UTT 27th Inter-District & State Table Tennis Championship 2024” under the aegis of Nagaland Table Tennis Association (NTTA) commenced today at Indoor TT Stadium Kohima.

Gracing the opening ceremony as the special guest, Nagaland’s Youth Resources & Sports advisor S. Keoshu Yimkhiung said “This prestigious event marks another milestone in our collective journey to elevate table tennis to new heights in our state and across the nation.”

Stating that the championship is more than just a competition, he said “It is a celebration of athleticism, passion and community.”

It is a platform where emerging talent from different corners of our state can display their dedication, perseverance, and love for this incredible sport, he said.

In this championship, the Advisor said, we are also witnessing the future of table tennis unfold before our very eyes, adding that many of the athletes competing today may one day represent the state and even the country on international stages.

He called upon the players to continue to dream big and work hard.

“You have our full support as you embark on this exciting journey,” he said.

‘Sports continue to be a powerful avenue for personal growth’
Today, sports continue to be a powerful avenue for personal growth and societal advancement. It develops discipline, leadership, and social bonds, and has become a gateway for professional opportunities through scholarships, government jobs, and even national or international recognition, Keoshu said.

By promoting sports among the younger generation, we are nurturing not just athletes but future leaders who will contribute to the overall progress of the community and the region, he said.

He said that the physical, mental and social benefits of sports, combined with the traditional values of our ancestors, can lead to holistic development for individuals and society as a whole.

Earlier, NTTA president Vitho Neikha delivered presidential address while welcome address was delivered by NTTA information & publicity secretary Vincent Belho.

Tiatemsu Imchen administered oath to the participants.

Altogether, 130 players registered for the tournament. They will compete for team championship (both Men and Women), Boys Under 15, Girls Under 19, Boys Under 19, Men’s / Women’s singles, doubles and Mixed doubles and Veterans 40, 50 and 60+
The tournament will continue till October 11.
