VAC Kigwema imparts scientific method of livestock rearing

Kohima, January 27 (MExN): The Village Adoption Committee (VAC), Kigwema along with the Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry imparted training on scientific methods of livestock rearing and also held a vaccination camp at Village Council Hall, Kigwema on January 21. As per DIPR report, the District Cultural Officer, Department of Art & Culture, Kevingulie Tachü speaking on the importance of preserving the traditional practices said it was not just about traditional attires, folk dance and songs but also the need to practice and preserve the noble characteristics and principles which marked the past generations from the rest. 

While sharing some of the past practices and principles which were strictly followed with a sense of duty and responsibility, Tachü lamented that with modernity, many noble characteristics have been discarded, which he said was one of the reasons for the sad state of work culture prevailing today. He exhorted the older generation to teach the younger generations in preserving one’s cultures and traditions.

Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr Joseph M Angami during the training on livestock rearing stressed on the need to expand livestock rearing not just for domestic consumption but also as an alternate source of livelihood. Dr Atouzo Pienyü (VAS) trained the villagers on the scientific rearing of poultry and Dr Khriesamhazo George Rhetso (VAS) shared on the technique of rearing pigs.

The vaccination camp recorded a total of 60 anti-rabies vaccination, 52 treatments for livestock related ailments and 170 treatments related to swine.
