Various measures are being undertaken for safety, maintaining NFR

Guwahati, June 8 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) today informed that it is constantly monitoring various parameters in rail safety. This is a continuous process, and constant endeavor is made to maintain and improve it, stated a press release from NFR CPRO.

Among others, these include safety audits/inspections at regular intervals on railway infrastructure with a view to identifying weak areas in asset maintenance, the press release said.

Safety procedures are followed to provide ways and means to prevent accidents, and periodical safety drives are launched from time to time to check safety consciousness among staff and streamline safety aspects, including asset maintenance, it added.

The NFR further emphasised that to improve safety and reliability of assets in train operation, timely replacement of over-aged assets is carried out, suitable technologies are adopted for upgradation and maintenance of track, rolling stock, signalling and interlocking systems, and so on.

There is a greater emphasis on training officials and conducting regular inspections to monitor and educate staff on the observance of safe practices, it said.

Safety devices/systems used to prevent accidents include Electronic Interlocking, track circuiting, provision of Block Proving Axle Counters (BPAC), Colour Light LED Signals, Train Protection Warning Systems (TPWS), Mobile Train Radio Communication (MTRC), Dedicated OFC-based Acoustic Sensing Systems, Vigilance Control Device (VCD), Fog Pass Device, Pre-stressed Concrete Sleepers, and the use of digital types of machines for Ultrasonic Flaw Detection (USFD).

System Monitoring and Predictive Maintenance Centre has been installed at many locations over NFR, and the system remotely monitors and diagnoses failures relating to Signal and Telecommunication assets, it added.
