Venuzo is Chakhesang Wrestling Champion

Venuzo Dawhuo from Thenyizu village today emerged as champion of the 26th Wrestling Meet of Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) held at Chetheba Town under Phek district.  

Standing 5’10 tall and weighing 92 kg, the 21-year old Venuzo Dawhuo overpowered a much bigger opponent in reigning champion Vechita Khesoh of Yoruba village in the final match to take the championship title. Khesoh stands 6’1tall and weighs 120 kg.  

Champion Dawhuo walked home with cash prize of Rs. 1.50 lakh while runner-up Khesoh received Rs. 1 lakh. Vekutho Soho (Phek village) downed Pfusato Tetseo (K. Bawu village) to win third place. The 3rd and 4th placed winners received Rs. 80,000 and Rs. 50,000 respectively.  

Quarter finalists of the meet included: Vetuzo Dawhuo (Chokri Area), Thepukhoyi Swuro (Chokri Area), Vetazo Veswuh (Chozuba Area), and Thupukutho Phesao (Chozuba Area).  

Prominent wrestlers like Surhoneyi Soho, Khruzoto Tetseo, Besuhveto Cumu failed to qualify for the pre-quarters round.  

CWA President Vezuhu Keyho delivered presidential address while dedication of CWA wrestling mat and mobile stage was done by Rev. Vevozo Khamo, Executive Secretary CCRC Chetheba.

  CWA Technical Secretary Huvesu Puro administered oath to the wrestlers.  

The two-day wrestling meet was hosted by Chokri Area Wrestling Association and managed by Thenyizu Baptist Church in aid of forthcoming 75th anniversary.  

Freestyle wrestling for both men and women category will take place on February 9.
