Venuzo Dawhuo wins fifth consecutive CWA wrestling championship title

29 years old Venuzo Dawhuo emerged the champion of the 30th Wresting Championship 2026 of Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) held at Pfutsero in Phek district on February 7.

Son of Nezohu Dawhuo from Thenyizu village, he defeated Hiiliiyi D Vadeo in finals to emerged the champion title.

He bagged the CWA Champions for five consecutive times with today’s win and pocketed a cash prize of Rs 2.50 lakh.

23 years Hiiliiyi D Vadeo, son of Lt Veciizo D Vadeo of Sakraba bagged 2nd position and secured Rs 1.70 lakh.

19 years Venu Vadeo, son of Zaseta Vadeo of Runguzu village bagged third position and awarded with Rs.1.30 lakh.

Mulusii Veswuh, son of Zacipoyi Veswuh of Suthozu Nawe bagged 4th position and awarded with Rs 1 lakh.

In Under 15 category, Kiitho Puro, son of Miiliisheyi Puro from Porba village (Secheku Wrestling Association) emerged the champion and awarded with a cash prize of Rs 50,000.

Zuve-o Keyho, son of Shemutu Keyho from Phek village (Phek Area Wrestling Asspciation) stood second position and received Rs 30,000.

Mutuve Dozo, son of Cisavo Dozo from Thiivopisu village (Chozuba Range Wrestling Association) bagged third position and received Rs 15, 000.

4th place winner Bizo Chizo, son of Zaveshiyi  Chizo from Phek village (Phek Area Wrestling Association) received Rs 10,000.

The losing quarter finalists under 15 category received Rs 5000 each.

Chozuba Range Wrestling Association emerged the Group Champion and awarded with Rs 20,000.

Phek Area Wrestling Association has been adjusted as the best discipline team and received Rs 10,000.

Earlier, James P K Sangma, National Working President, National People’s Party (NPP), who is also Vice President, Council of State Industrial Development & Investment Corporations of India; Chairman, Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and President, Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA), graced the event as the special guest.

MLAs Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu and Dr Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhütso, Nagaland Wrestling Association president Vivolie Kezo, Angami Sports Association president Rokovikho Chale, officials from Nagaland Olympic Association, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Pfutsero, Mhalo Humtsoe,  Naga Students’ Federation former president Medovi Rhi, Pfutsero Town Council chairperson Mikha Kenye and several other dignitaries also present at the inaugural function.

Declaration of CWA selected players for NWA Meet 2026 was done by CWA general secretary Kukhoto Venyo.

The 18 selected CWA wrestlers (Senior category) for the upcoming NWA Meet 2026 includes; Venuzo Dawhuo( CAWA), Hiiliiyi D, Vadeo (SWA), Venu Vadeo (SWA), Muhusu Veswuh (CRWA),  Thuputha Hesuh ( (SWA),  Kuluvezo Soho (PAWA), Besuhveto Cumu ( CAWA), Nubasa Rhakho (PAWA), Kiivenii Puro (SWA),  Khriethoveyi Veswuh (CRWA),  Venuto Nyekha (CRWA),  Rukukhoto Khusoh ( CRWA),  Sukhrure Domeh ( SWA),  Sasiiyi Nyekha ( CRWA), Vevokho  Ruho (CAWA) Muleciyi Vadeo (CRWA), Mululhu Nienu ( CRWA) and Vemele Thingo (CAWA).

The prize sponsors included; Sanüzo Nienu, Director, Department of Agriculture, Govt of Nagaland, Vekhoyi Chakhesang, Director, Food & Civil Supplies, Govt of Nagaland, Nikho Venuh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chümoukedima, Govt of Nagaland, Neisazo Domeh, District Civil Supply Officer, Phek, Govt of Nagaland, Nezosa Tetseo,  President, Phek District Sports Association and Vekhayi Rüho.

Hükhonieyi Soho officiated the meet as the chief referee and assisted by Hüvesü Puro, Lhüvenü Phesao, Vechita Khesoh, Vekhriyi Chüzho, Sürhoneyi Soho, Zacüta Puro, Seyielhoukho Sechü and Khrietuolie üsou.

The jury board consisted Zazhota Dawhuo, Thüvoswüyi Lohe and Müdongoyi Swüro.

The meet was managed by Porbami Wrestling Association.
