A press release informed that Veprasa spoke on Domestic Violence Act, 2005 emphasising on Section 498 IPC relating to cruelty against women and maintenance rights of women under section 125 of CrPC. He also stressed on various issues underlining that even a mere verbal abuse by a husband amounts to domestic violence. He spoke on protection of wife or female live-in partner from domestic violence at the hands of the husband or male live-in partner or his relatives. The law also extends its protection to women living in a household such as sisters, widows or mothers, he said, adding domestic violence under the above mentioned Act includes actual abuse or threat of abuse whether physical, sexual, verbal, emotional or economic.

Resource person, Advocate Esther K Aye spoke on Rights of Legal Aid to persons whose annual income is less than 1 lakh and especially for victim of sexually abused women and children. She also highlighted on one time settlement method of Lok Adalat, dowry related cases and how to file Domestic Incident Report (DIR) and Victims Compensation Scheme from government.
Meanwhile, Advocate Limasenla Longkumer spoke on Child Labour, Human Trafficking and Domestic Workers Rights. She highlighted on Child Labour (Prohibitions & Regulation) Act, 1986 and Right of a person against exploitation under Article 23 of the Constitution also relating to fundamental rights of domestic workers to fair working conditions.
N.K. Keny, president, Nagaland Alliance for Child Rights (NACR) chaired the programme and Ketsunuo, VDB President, Women Wing delivered the keynote address. The programme was attended by village council members and GBs, VDB women leaders and around 250 women participants.
