KOHIMA, JULY 18 (MExN): A felicitation programme for the Peren District Badminton Association’s Team was held today at Peren Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall.
The Peren badminton team had won the overall Champion trophy during the recently concluded Li Ning 45th Inter District and State Open Badminton Championship 2023.
Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang gave away cash award to the team. In his short speech, TR Zeliang expressed immense pride and said that the Peren District Badminton ream has done exceedingly well in the recently concluded Li Ning 45th Inter District and State Open Badminton Championship held at Kohima.
Besides, the district being a powerhouse of football in the state, TR Zeliang expressed happiness that Peren Badminton team has won against the more fancied teams like Nagaland Police, Kohima district, and Dimapur district.
Winning both the Men’s and Junior Boys Team Champion in our first ever entry in the finals is no mean feat and a great achievement indeed but winning the overall champion out of nowhere tops it all, TR Zeliang said.
“Many would not have given the district any chances to win any trophy or medals but once again we have triumphed against all odds which shows games and sports is natural to us and with refined grooming of skill sets we can compete with the best,” TR Zeliang said.
“I cannot assure you overnight growth and development of the sport but can assure the badminton fraternity that in my little capacity I will push to see to it that progress is not stopped but built upon where we have started”, TR said.
He also applauded the president and the team of Peren District Badminton Association for their timeless efforts and sacrifice in promoting the game with the modest infrastructure and pool of players.
The programme was chaired by Asekho Talie, Peren district sports officers while Rampaukopoing, executive secretary, ZBCC invoked blessing upon the players.
