DIMAPUR, APRIL 14 (MExN): The Phek Village Council on behalf of all the frontal organizations within the Village jurisdiction in particular and the citizens of Phek in general has vehemently condemned the alleged attack on their Chairman by cadres of an NSCN faction. Pouring out utter displeasure over the incident, the Village Council, Phek today said that on April 12 “the NSCN (K) cadres who were being camped at Satheri Village mercilessly harassed and tortured Mr. Shenutso Soho, Chairman, Village Council, Phek (VCC) at the said Village at around 9:00AM.”
Since the inception of the ‘Naga Independent movement’ from way back during 1956 Phek village leaders were neither harassed nor tortured or intimidated, the village council said.
An emergency consultative sitting was convened today at the Community Hall, Phek at 5:30 in the morning which was officially attended by members of the Village Council (VCM), GBs, representatives from Phek Students Union, Phek Collegiate Forum, VDB Women Wing, Phek Village Youth Society, Elders, etc. in respect of the said incident, it was informed.
“The Leaders in the said sitting had voted to condemn the dastardly act of the NSCN (K) cadres who with no proper reason forcibly harassed and tortured the Leader of the Village in black and blue.”
Terming the incident as an unwanted action which is a direct attack and insult to the village and not an individual attack, the village council said the several members of the house asserted that every inhabitant should condemn it in the strongest terms. The leaders also termed the action of the cadres as “cowardice, immature and irresponsible.”
The house further firmly resolved to condemn any such unwanted act implemented by any factions or groups who involved in torturing and harassing the leaders of the Village who commit no wrong in the near future. Such ‘childish act’ will not be tolerated in the near future, the condemnation said. The house also humbly prayed for the speedy recovery of the said victim.
