Village functionaries taught on their responsibilities

Peren, may 11 (MExN): A coordination meeting for village functionaries under Peren District, organized by the District Administration was held today at Peren Town Hall. A press release issued by the Peren Government College, Peren HoD Political Science Albert stated that almost all the GBs, Village Chairmen and Secretaries attended the meeting.
Deputy Commissioner, Peren, Khrienuo, C. Metha exhorted the village leaders to hold hands of fellow villagers and go ahead for progress and development amd urged them to utilize the village funds for the need of all while cautioning that the District Administration would be monitoring fund utilization and strict action would be taken on self-interest and corrupt functionaries. The DC emphasized on not neglecting women but to give them their due share to qualify for release of funds. She also disclosed that under provisions of the 13th Finance Award, village functionaries and District Administration would be working hand-in-hand to identify and to implement different projects. She also said that ban on hunting which is enforced for a period of one year since September last would be renewed and asked all the village councils and GBs to extend their support and cooperation in this regard to make the Ban effective for preservation and conservation of wildlife in the District.
Superintendent of Police, Peren, Iherie Ndang while commenting on the absence of police case from villages as a good sign of effective implementation of customary law by the village authorities, urged the village authorities to judiciously execute their authority as per prescribed Acts and Rules only. He expressed deep concern on the existence of thatch huts in villages despite regular supply of CGI Roofing Sheets to the villages through the VDBs for the past several years and questioned the village leaders on the matter. He exhorted the village heads on the urgent need to stop deforestation and wanton felling of trees within their respective jurisdiction to preserve the valuable forests, to prevent adverse climatic change and also to protect water reserves.
