
Kohima, November 15 (MExN): Awareness cum community consultation programme on wildlife and forest conservation was organized by Kohima Forest Division in collaboration with the local functionaries of ten villages under Northern Angami area at Tsiemekhuma village on November 13.
The villages included Tsiemekhuma, Tsiemekhu Basa, Seiyhama, Seiyha Phesa, Teichuma, Tuophema, Tuophe Phezou, Botsa, Gariphema and Gariphe Basa.
During the programme, DFO Kohima, Rongsenlemla Imchen highlighted on the importance of wildlife and forest conservation and appreciated those villages who are sincerely involved in protecting the environment. She said all villages in the area should come together with a common goal in protecting the forest to ensure sustainability in the conservation movement. Many issues related to Human-Animal conflict, forest fires and livelihood security vis a vis biodiversity conservation were also discussed during the meeting.
The local functionaries of all the ten villages appreciated the department for taking the initiatives in raising environmental awareness in the area and assured to protect the forests and wildlife. The programme was attended by all the local functionaries of the area, churches, youth bodies, administration and forest department officials. It may be reminded that this programme is a part of the community consultation programme of Kohima Division primarily to fill up the critical gaps between those villages or areas with conservation value.
