Visevo Zashümo is Southern Angami Open Naga Wrestling champion

Visevo Zashümo from Phesama village today emerged champion of the first Southern Angami Open Naga Wrestling Championship 2019 held under the aegis of Jordan Group, Viswema.


Zashümo, weighing 90 kgs and standing 5.9 feet tall defeated Neithongulie Kuotsu also from Phesama in the final bout.


Viphrezo Mejura of Phesama village and Ruokuovituo Lese of Mima village won the third and fourth places respectively.


The championship which had 28 wrestlers was held at John Government Higher Secondary School Ground, Viswema.


Addressing the inaugural session as special guest, Medo Yhokha, PRO to NLA Speaker said Southern Angami is blessed with beautiful landscape and past glory which include truthfulness, loving and cordial.


Maintaining that there was a lot of respect and integrity in for the Southern Angami people, he said that it is the responsibility of the present generation to regain the uphold glory.


He also challenged the present generation to stop basking on the past glories and achievements of our forefathers, but to work hard to sustain the rich legacies, emulate and to do better to bequeath a befitting society worth inheriting by posterity.


Encouraging the wrestlers, Yhokha advised them to be honest and also maintain discipline in action and behaviour to be a successful in near future.


He also called upon the wrestlers to shun and desist from indulging in activities and habits that destroys the body and soul in order to be role models of the beautiful game traditional form of wrestling.


Meanwhile, challenging to the Southern Angami areas on the impact of climate change, he urged the people to love and care for the environment. He said protection of the flora and fauna should be the priority for the betterment of younger generation.


Pukul Kennao, chairman Z. Khel Viswema graced the occasion as guest of honour and also gave away prize to the winners.


The cash award for the winners Champion- Rs 80,000 was sponsored by Kikrol (Medo), second - Rs 60,000 sponsored by Sato Naleo, third – Rs 40,000 by Metekhrielie Mejura and 4th- Rs 30,000 by Zhavito Rhutso.


Youth Resources & Sports advisor Er. Zale Neikha also witnessed with the championship.
