Nagaland has a total of 1355 villages with only one uninhabited village as on March 2021.

Out of the 1355 villages, 1280 villages are recognized by the Government of Nagaland and 75 villages are unrecognized.

In addition to 1355 villages, Nagaland has a total 111 hamlets, according to Survey on the number of villages in Nagaland 2021 published by Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Government of Nagaland.

From the total of 1355 villages and 111 hamlets, villages in Nagaland have approximately 36, 5, 679 households with an approximate population of 19, 49, 394.

Out of the 1355 inhabited villages, there are 1272 villages having Village Development Board (VDB) and 83 villages without VDB.

Availability of govt services/amenities in villages

Out of 1355 inhabited villages, 1203 villages have Government schools while 152 villages do not have government schools.

559 villages have government health centres while 796 villages do not have the facility.

A total of 1106 villages have water supply provided by PHE department and 249 villages are without provision of PHED water supply.

On the basis of frequency of availability of water with a recall period of 30 days from the date of survey, 322 villages received zero day of water supply, 103 villages received between 1 to 10 days of water supply, 156 villages received between 11 to 20 days of water supply and 525 villages received between 21 to 30 days of water supply.

1321 villages of Nagaland have electricity provided by the Department of Power, Government of Nagaland and 34 villages are still without electricity supply from the department of power.

On basis of frequency of availability of power with a recall period of 30 days from the date of survey, 17 villages have zero day of power supply, 47 villages received between 1 to 10 days of power supply, 257 villages received between 11 to 20 days of power supply and 1000 villages received between 21 to 30 days of power supply.

Road connectivity

Out of 1355 inhabited villages, 1078 villages have all weathered roads and 277 villages are without all weathered roads.

On the basis of the location/distance of the village from the main National/State Highway, 255 villages are located less than 1 km, 495 villages are located between 1 km to 10 km, 250 villages are located between 10 km to 20 km, 109 villages are located between 20 km to 30 km, 180 villages are located between 30 km to 50 km and 66 villages located beyond 50 km from the main National Highway/State Highway.
 
Social statistics

From the 1355 inhabited villages and 111 hamlets of Nagaland, there are approximately 12,229 people with special needs which form 0.63% of the approximate village population.

The approximate number of illiterates reported is 2, 12, 218 and there are approximately 76754 out-of- school children who are below 18 years of age.
