Mokokchung, May 16 (MExN): Endeavoring to brig about peace through the game of volleyball, a friendly volleyball match was played between the 31 Assam Rifles and ‘Peace Team’, comprising of veteran local volleyball players, at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on May 15, 2014. The Assam Rifles team defeated the ‘Peace Team’ at the friendly match which was played on the theme ‘Volleyball for Peace’. The Assam Rifles team defeated the ‘Peace Team’ in five set: 21-25, 25-17, 18-25, 25-17, 16-14.
The match was witnessed by the Dy Commandant of 31 Assam Rifles, SP Mokokchung Vikram Khalate IPS, SDO (C) Mokokchung, Theodore Yanthan, Ongpangkong Students’ Conference president Imtisungkum and others.
The organizer of the match Talimoa, who is a veteran volleyball player who played for the state volleyball team, disclosed that the main idea behind the friendly volleyball match was to create awareness about the need for peace and harmony in the society. He disclosed that sports is one of the best means to propagate peace and therefore hoped that friendly matches on the theme would bring about peace and amity in the society. He also disclosed that the main objective behind the friendly match was also to provide a platform to the young volleyball players in the society and also to harness the young talents in a positive way. Talimoa further said that he will be organizing such friendly matches with interested volleyball teams in the days to come.
Meanwhile, a luck draw was also held after the friendly match. The results of the lucky draw are:
