Abandoned school buildings reportedly sanctioned between 2010-2013 under the erstwhile SSA still incomplete, claims ESSU
Aghunato, July 25 (MExN): Two student bodies- Viyilho Students’ Union (VSU) and Ngozubomi Students’ Union (NSU) on Saturday expressed support to the Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) in its demand for action against those responsible for the “deplorable and abandoned school buildings construction” in four villages under its jurisdiction.
Earlier on June 25, the ESSU had issued a press release stating that the “abandoned school buildings were reportedly sanctioned between 2010-2013 under the erstwhile Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and projects were implemented by District Mission Authority, Zunheboto (DMAZ),” and urged authorities to look into the matter and ensure completion of the projects.
It had also written to the Department of School Education on July 5 urging the department to “to take immediate steps to complete the construction of GMS Ngozubo, GMS Viyilho, GMS Shevishe and GMS Kelto under SDEO Aghunato.”
VSU: The Viyilho Students’ Union in its release claimed that it had “traced the details of the individuals” from the SSA, DMAZ who undertook the GMS building construction and left it abandoned.
It urged the concerned authorities both at the district and state level to “come out with strong will and urgently meet the demands” of the ESSU, and complete construction of the GMS school building.
NSU: The press release from the NSU stated that the union “is waiting for the concerned authority to find out the culprits who have been involved in this severe fiasco” urging for befitting action upon the culprits and completion of the school building.
It extended support to the ESSU’s demands and called upon all right thinking citizens and civil society organizations to condemn such acts of negligence.
