Kohima: In the latest development relating to the ongoing battle of words between political Parties, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee has downplayed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s earlier statements made against it.
“The BJP has been trying to project itself as a secular party, but it is a known fact that the Bajrang Dal and VHP are its heart and soul which has been causing much atrocities against the Christians and minorities in the BJP reigned States,” Spokesperson of the NPCC TL Merry said.
While saying that right after the visit of BJP National Secretary Pramod Mahajan to Dimapur, Hindu extremists had attacked Christian worshippers during a Sunday service on September 11, Merry stated, “We cannot compromise with our faith and therefore we invoke the sentiments of believers in Christ and Church leaders to stand against such atrocities in a secular country.”
Dragging in the Nagaland Peoples’ Front into the argument, the NPCC has said that since the BJP is a constituent of the NPF led DAN Government, the people of Nagaland have the right to know the stand of the NPF as to whether the party (NPF) also subscribes to such discrimination against the Christian community in the hands of VHP & RSS which are hardliners of the BJP.“Moreover, the recent stand of the Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio claiming that DAN is neither affiliated to UPA nor NDA has become very confusing.
It is unbecoming of a responsible leader to disown NDA right after its defeat in the last Parliamentary Election” Merry added.
On the scholarship issue, the Congress Spokesperson had to say, “It has been ascertained that the Government of Nagaland failed to submit proper reply to queries sent by the Ministry of Social Welfare, New Delhi.
This is a matter of serious concern since it has put thousands of Naga students to severe hardship for no fault of theirs.”
