Ward functionaries attend orientation on waste management

Kohima, July 13 (MExN): As part of the 100 days Smart City special initiative campaign on sanitation, the Kohima Smart City Dev Ltd in collaboration with Green Team Kohima held an orientation programme for ward functionaries on waste management on July 13 at KMC hall, Kohima.


Altogether 70 representatives from 10 Wards attended the program which started with an introduction on the purpose of community participation in the management of wastes. A powerpoint presentation on 'Waste Management and Plastic pollution was presented by resource person Thangi Mannen. The environmental pollution through improper disposal of wastes and the ill effects of plastic pollution in our everyday life was highlighted through the ppt. It was followed by discussion some of the points shared including how the Municipal should make strict rules on waste disposal systems for the citizens starting from each household level, educating schools and churches on waste management, all colony citizens to be made proactive in keeping their colonies clean etc. Participants were also highlighted on how the Kohima Solid Waste Management Facility Site at Lerie works, challenges faced and how each citizen can help make it more efficient.


Towards effective intervention, each Ward was assigned to nominate 3 to 5 Wards (5 for large Wards) volunteers who will be trained to create community action towards proper waste management through outreach.
Organizers shared on the importance of these volunteers in propagation of proper waste management methods among the citizens of Kohima.
