Damaged section of the Pfutsero–Phek road as highlighted by the Centre Chakhesang Public Organization.

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 6 (MExN): The Centre Chakhesang Public Organization (CCPO) has issued an ultimatum to the Deputy Commissioner of Phek, demanding immediate action against the KKB Company for alleged negligence in the repair and maintenance of the Pfutsero–Phek two-lane road via Sakraba EAC Headquarters.
In a representation submitted to the DC, the CCPO stated that despite the Government of India’s provision of funds for road maintenance over a period of four to five years, the contractor has failed to uphold the required standards. The organization highlighted multiple instances of poor workmanship, landslides, and structural failures along the route.
According to the CCPO, “the landslides from above the road have blocked the road and the side drainages throughout the distance from Pfutsero–Phek, the retaining walls and the protection walls have collapsed at several locations, there have been sinking areas where the road is badly damaged and due to poor quality workmanship throughout the total distance cracks have developed.”

It also drew attention to “unscrupulous private individuals” who have reportedly damaged the road through quarrying and other private activities.
The organization demanded that the collapsed retaining and protection walls be repaired immediately, the sinking areas be treated with “utmost sincerity,” and all potholes and cracks be properly fixed. It further criticized earlier repair efforts, noting that “instead of removing the defective and loose metalling and soiling and redoing the same after which asphalt carpeting should have been done, the contractors rather coated such cracked portions with namesake thin layer of tar. At several points, those repairs have been peeled off already.”

The CCPO urged that proper procedures be followed in all future repair works. It also demanded that “landslide flotsam and jetsam eroding down the road rubbishing at several locations should be thoroughly cleared because it is immensely creating nuisance to the travellers as well as the farmers/cultivators of these area.”
The organization alleged that “no jungle clearance has been executed on the part of KKB company i.e. from Zero Point 00km to 20km Pfutsero–Phek road via Sakraba Hq.–Porba–Pholami–Khomi till date.”

Stating that “the sincerity of KKB company is highly questionable as no machineries has been deployed within their allotted stretch as and when time calls for,” the CCPO requested the Deputy Commissioner to take up the matter with the concerned authorities and deliberate it in the PM 11 meeting.
It demanded that the contractors be compelled to complete all maintenance work on or before October 31, 2025, since the maintenance period will end on November 13, 2025.
“Should there be any lapse on the part of the concerned authorities in dispensing their responsibilities on time, the organization will be compelled to react with heavy action,” the letter cautioned.
