Longleng, December 27 (MExN): The watch tower cum waiting shed at Tangha village under Longleng district was dedicated on December 23 last. Rev A Adao, Pastor, Yachem Baptist Church delivered the dedicatory prayer, stated a DIPR report.

The facility was contributed by the Pastor of Tangha Village Baptist Church, Hamphe Phom and family in “memory of their loving parents and untimely departed siblings who are gone to be with the Lord.”

In his speech, Hamphe Phom said that his lifelong desire to make a significant contribution to the community is satisfied today. “I am glad to see the waiting shed or tower still standing, and also greatly inspired to know that we have locals with the same level of expertise as other workers,” he noted.

Phom appealed the “wealthy group” to build waiting sheds or other facilities which the entire community could use, rather than just putting their money in building cemeteries.

Further, he observed that people borrow large sums of money to build cemeteries. “However, rather than wasting this sum of money, we can always utilise the money properly by creating a frame in the funeral programme commemorating the death, which we can place in the common room as a remembrance,” he suggested.

He added that the monument was built not just as a place of remembrance but also as a place for the community to come together and rest.

Later, he gave the ownership of the monument to the village council, the report added.

Short speeches were also delivered by C Chingvai Phom, Deacon TBC, V Ongyap Phom and Longjah Phom, Hd/GB Amosen. Earlier, the invocation was pronounced by Y Batan, HD/Parick, welcome address was delivered by T Odang Phom, Henloi and friends presented a special song and the programme was chaired by L Manvu Phom, Associate Pastor, TBC.
