A two-week training programme on the “Revival of Traditional Weaving” commenced today at the Women Resource Centre in Marepkong Ward, Mokokchung. Organized by Watsü Mungdang as part of their School of Culture initiative and funded by the Department of Women Resource Development, the program aims to preserve traditional weaving techniques while empowering women through skill development.
Dr Adangla Changkija, Convenor of the School of Culture, emphasized the program’s focus on preserving traditional weaving methods, promoting cultural heritage, and empowering women by enhancing their skills.
The training, running from October 17 to 31, includes hands-on weaving sessions that will cover various types of yarns, weaving tools, traditional techniques, and methods. Day 1 featured the inaugural session and an introduction to weaving, with a welcome speech by S. Arenla Longkumer, President of Watsü Mungdang, followed by remarks from a representative of the Department of Women Resource Development.
The School of Culture, an initiative of Watsü Mungdang, aims to preserve Ao Naga heritage through education, offering lessons in the Ao language, traditional music, folk dances, arts, and environmental conservation. Its mission is to foster cultural preservation, character development, and community engagement.
