NSLSA Member Secretary Mezivolu attends South Asia Regional Conference on Preventing Human Trafficking
Dimapur, April 9 (MExN): Mezivolu T Therieh, Member Secretary of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority attended a two-day South Asia Regional Conference on ‘Amplifying Lessons from Swaraksha Caravan’ organized by Prajwala at Hyderabad on April 7 and 8.
The Member Secretary NSLSA spoke on way forward for preventing human trafficking in Nagaland.
A press note from the NSLSA informed that the South Asia Regional Conference was organized for officials from Department of Women and Child Welfare/Social Welfare, Police, Judiciary and civil society organizations.
Representatives from South Asian countries - Bangladesh, Thailand, Nepal and Myanmar attended the event, including around 150 delegates from all over India and four South Asian countries. One representative each from the Department of Women & Child Welfare/Social Welfare, Police, State Legal Services and civil society organization from 26 Indian States and two representatives from each of the four South Asian countries also participated in the conference.
The format of the conference was designed to include the sharing of the lessons learned from Swaraksha Campaign, the impact thereafter and proposed plan to replicate the campaign across the region.
'Swaraksha' (self-protection) a community awakening caravan conceived and pioneered by Prajwala in close partnership with the Governments of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, supported by the US Consulate General Hyderabad and Catholic Relief Services (CRS), was launched on January 9, 2016, in Hyderabad, Telangana.
As the first of its kind survivor-led community-awakening caravan, the campaign was also unique in the collaborative partnership successfully established on the ground with the State Governments and civil society.
