Dimapur, January 10 (MExN): Western Chakhesang Youth Organization (WCYO) observed Chakhesang Day on January 10 during the biennial sports meet currently underway at Bade Village.
WCYO President, Likalo Letro in a press release stated that addressing the occasion, Besuneyi Swuro, Vice President, Western Chakhesang Hoho greeted the community and briefed the youth on the significance of the Day.
Late Goyiepra Kenye, Late Wezülhi Krome and Late Nesatsü Khamo were the pioneers who mobilized the community and fought for the recognition of the Chakhesang tribe which was recognized on January 10, 1946 by the British Indian Government. Before this time, the Chakhesang were a part of Eastern Angami.
Swuro exhorted the gathering particularly the youth to take up the responsibility of strengthening the sense of unity within the community in particular and society in general. He also called on the gathering to be instruments of support to each other irrespective of one’s background.
In conclusion, Swuro encouraged the sportspersons and youth to strive for competing on higher platforms and in bringing laurels to the community.
