Kohima: President of the Nagaland People’s Front, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu has stated that the NPF, as a political party, stands for the integration of all Naga inhabited areas. A press release issued by him states, “We are Nagas by blood and not by choice. Integration is an issue common to all the Naga communities/groups. We can never allow anybody to suppress this historical fact.” While stating that the NPF had been supporting integration since the 1960’s, he asked the people not to misconstrue the fact that the party was not supporting any particular underground group. He further advised that no Naga leader should selfishly look upon the issue from a community angle but should come forward with a big heart to stand for it. He sais that History of nagas cannot be erased just because underground group have differences. The NPF leader has put across his point of view that India, being the largest democracy in the world, Nagas also enjoyed the freedom of speech. “When we talk about integration, we are talking about our birthright and there is nothing wrong in it” he added.
Dr. Liezietsu has also pointed out that the British people divided the Nagas into fragments without their knowledge. “They might have done it for their own administrative convenience and not with any bad intention. But with the passage of time, this arrangement was found to be a mistake. It is also true that the Government of India has inherited this mistake”, Dr Liezietsu stated.
“To correct this mistake the Naga people have been expressing their desire to live together under the same administrative umbrella.”
