Officers’ Hill Colony Council honours Mimi Yhoshü

The recipient of National Award to Teachers 2022, Mimi Yhoshü was honoured in a befitting manner by Officers’ Hill Colony Council (OHCC), Kohima on September 15. Yhoshü is the Head teacher of Government Middle School, Officers’ Hill, Kohima.

In a felicitation programme organized for her by OHCC here, All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association (ANSTA) President, Kasheto Sumi congratulated Yhoshü for getting the prestigious award and described her as sincere, honest and dedicated teacher. 

“We are very proud of you,” he said and wanted her to be a role model and ambassador of teachers and to the students and also to the society.

OHCC General Secretary, Alemwapang Imsong also congratulated Yhoshü for getting this prestigious Award, which was presented by President of India Droupadi Murmu on Teachers’ Day in New Delhi this year. “Despite of the poor infrastructure, under the able leadership of the head teacher and the national awardee (Yhoshü), our GMS has been consistently bringing good results and laurels,” he said. Imsong also thanked the School Management Committee (SMC) of GMS Officers’ Hill led by chairman, Azho Sophie for progress of the school in every aspect.

Also lauding the role of teachers, Imsong said, “Teachers are our second parents. Teachers play a prominent role in influencing and inspiring us. Every student tries to imitate their teachers and consider them as a role model. After parents, teachers take the responsibility of moulding a child's character at each and every step. And teachers teach us a lot about life and academics. Let us take time to pay honour and admire all their contribution in elevating us.”

There are 174 students in GMS Officers’ Hill Kohima at present, said SMC Chairman Azho Sophie.

Yhoshu to give Rs 5000 for distinction in Maths/Science
Speaking at the programme, Yhoshü gave a commitment to extend a reward of Rs 5000 to any student from this school (GMS Officers’ Hill Kohima) who get distinction (above 80%) in both Mathematics and Science subject in Class VIII Board Examination for a period five years or till her association with this school.

It will be effective from 2022 academic year. She said the idea behind this award is to develop interest in the minds of students to study maths and science with seriousness.

On many students finding Maths and science as the hardest subject and fear psychosis on those subjects, she said “Actually, these two subjects are not that hard as it deal with facts and daily life.”

In this, she told the students to develop a logic, critical thinking and scientific temper.”

Meanwhile, Yhoshü dedicated this prestigious award to beloved students, fellow teachers and her family.

She acknowledged the SMC, parents and guardians of the students and community as whole for their consistent support and encouragement. Further, she thanked the school education department for recognizing her for this award.
