DIMAPUR, MARCH 6 (MExN): The Chakhesang Public Organization, taking exception to a news item which appeared in this newspaper, today retorted to the earlier article where “one AT Sangtam indicted Chakhesang Community.” Reminding him of the correct usage and spelling of certain terms, CPO President Yesonu Veyie stated “it is not Chakhro Chokri and not Kezha but Khezha.”
“The Chakhesang came into being in 1946 and it is now 61 years old. During all these years no Sub-tribe irrespective of size or stature ever tried to suppress each other and there is no such quotable instance.” Veyie said the formation of the three Sub-tribes of Chokri, Khezha and Sangtam (Pochury) into a tribe as Chakhesang was with mutual trust and understanding, “and as such fro the inception till date we have been having the best of peaceful co-existence.”
He termed as unfortunate coming across “such inciting gossip with the intention of creating mistrust within our brotherhood.” The CPO also made it clear that Chakhesang is a full-fledged recognized tribe within Naga society and for anyone to call it as “an artificial tribal identity” is an insult to Chakhesang people as whole. “To which ever tribe AT Sangtam belongs may be artificial but not we the Chakhesangs because we have distinct habitation, tradition, culture and origin. We the Chakhesangs have our own chronological history written or verbal and there is no dispute or confusion over our root what so ever.” Therefore, the Chakhesang do not need to search for their origin as proposed, the CPO said.
