This year, the Dimapur Night Carnival will be a week-long affair. Announcing the dates today, the organising committee of the Carnival informed that it has been extended from 5 days to 7 days on account of popular public demand. It will be jointly organised by the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Business Association of Nagas, East Dimapur Business Association and the Dimapur district administration and will take place at the Naga Shopping Arcade (Super Market) from December 11-17.
“If we are to consider the number of footfalls it receives (every year), the Dimapur Night Carnival is no less than the Hornbill Festival,” said organising committee member Dr. Khekugha Muru. The carnival has witnessed increasing public interest while the volume of business is becoming better year after year, Dr. Muru added. According to him, no less than a 100 local entrepreneurs have benefited from the Carnival each year. “We’d love to have entrepreneurs/stalls from other districts too.”
Besides being a source of healthy family entertainment during the festive season, co-convenor Akum Jamir said that the basic idea of the Carnival has been to promote local entrepreneurs and cottage industry. “It could well become a training ground for budding entrepreneurs to hone business skills,” he added.
A maximum of 250 stalls/booths will be up for grabs at the venue. Stating that an open invitation will be put up soon, the organising committee informed that stalls will be allotted after the applicants are put through a screening process.
On this Jamir said that the organising committee will be on the lookout for entrepreneur/applicants with innovative ideas. “We’d like to give opportunity to entrepreneurs with innovative ideas.” According to him, the Dimapur Night Carnival is one place which has room for all irrespective of race, colour or religion.
And as an incentive for putting up attractive stalls, the organising committee informed that it will continue with the practice of picking and awarding the allottee with the best stall. The winner of the best stall award will automatically get a stall the next year.
