Dimapur, February 4 (MExN): To bring transformative positive changes through the democratic process of election, Western Sumi organisations have resolved to prohibit ‘buying and selling of vote’ and debar setting up of ‘youth camps’ in any village or colony.
The resolution to this effect was taken during a meeting between the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH), Western Sumi Kukami Hoho (WSKH), and Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) on January 30 at the WSH Hiyam, according to a joint press release on Saturday.
The release, appended by WSH President Atomi Swu, WSKH President Vikuto Achumi, and WSYF President Mughavi Awomi, also reaffirmed support to the Sumi Hoho’s January 26 resolution on the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state.
Further, “as enshrined in the WSH constitution, no Sumi who has been elected, selected, or nominated to any position in any Sumi civil society organisations (NGOs) is allowed to drag alongwith, the platform of the organisation while exercising the individual right as a citizen to favour and vote for any party or candidate,” the release stated.
Strictly prohibiting ‘buying and selling of vote,’ it called on the citizens to report to the WSH office in the instance of any buying or selling of vote being caught. While meetings are allowed, it debarred the setting up of youth camps in any village or colony under its jurisdiction and also stated that “Intoxicant of any kind is debarred from being used or issued.”
Use of loud speakers (sound systems) is debarred during election campaigning, it added.
According to the joint release, the meeting deliberated on the need of the hour for the Sumis to regenerate transformative positive changes for the good and uplift of all the Sumi areas through the democratic process of election.
As such, the aforementioned directives “have been adopted as an enabling order for all the GBs, Councils, and leaders of frontal branches at various levels in Sumi villages and colonies to follow up in strict implementation for the good and upliftment of all the Sumi areas.”
All the Church leaders in the Mission Centres, pastors and associated members of all Sumi churches are requested to participate through their prayers in the collective effort to bring about the much needed transformative changes in all the Sumi areas, it added.
